About Me
Alexandra Beviss
Early Years Educator and Phonics Specialist
Previously, the literacy coordinator at the British International School of New York, I have a passion for teaching reading and developing skills that pave the way for life long learning.
Through my time spent as an educator in the UK and US, I’ve developed my own approach to teaching little ones to read. Drawing on what I’ve seen work best, the key to building and developing reading comprehension is through the structured approach of teaching letters and their corresponding sounds.
As a Williamsburg mom myself, I was inspired to create Friends of Phonics combining my knowledge of phonics and its crucial role in nurturing early reading skills and language acquisition, and a desire to equip parents with the tools that will help support the learning of reading at home.
For me, learning happens best through play, which is why my thematic classes are built around immersive storytelling, role-play and crafts. Each lesson incorporates multi-sensory activities that support a variety of learning styles, engaging all my little learners.
